SlowTalk: Nature
As human beings, we are intricately interwoven with nature. As a matter of fact we are all part of nature: Without the physical substance of the earth, the stars in the universe, the life-giving forces of water, the air we breathe, and the warmth of the sun, we would not exist.
Our natural environment is suffering significant damage, but that is not what I am proposing for today. I would like to focus on the personal benefits we, as individuals, derive from nature for our health and wellbeing. Take a simple plant, such as a tree, and contemplate how we benefit from it:
trees are a habitat for humans and animals,
trees produce oxygen and purify the air,
trees provide us with food,
trees beautify the environment ,
trees prevent soil erosion,
trees cool our cities in summer and protect us from wind,
trees disguise unwanted sights,
trees reduce noise,
trees regulate water flow,
trees are a source of energy,
trees are pleasing to sit under and relax,
This is what trees can do. What does a bee do for you? How do you (re)-act when you meet a deer face-to-face? How are you affected by a thunderstorm? What do you feel when looking at the stars?
Let’s have a look at Nature as a whole during an evening of appreciation and celebration.
